She quickly moved up in the ranks, beginning with roles in children's theater and eventually performing before an audience of thousands. When she was 11 years old, she performed The Star-Spangled Banner before a basketball game for the Philadelphia 76ers. that same year she picked up a guitar and began writing songs. Drawing inspiration from popular country artists like Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks (now the Chicks) Swift crafted original music that was a reflection of her experience of growing up in a world that was dominated by tweens. Swift's family relocated to Tennessee from Pennsylvania when she was 13so she could be able to spend longer pursuing country music labels in Nashville.
